Periodontal Maintenance

Periodontal disease (gum disease) affects teeth's surrounding tissues due to plaque buildup. Early stage: gingivitis – red, swollen, bleeding gums. If left untreated, it worsens to periodontitis, infecting gums, causing recession, mobility, tooth loss. Regular dental care prevents and manages this condition, preserving oral health and preventing further complications.

Periodontal maintenance is vital for managing gum disease. It involves regular cleanings, check-ups, and plaque/tartar removal. Frequency varies but is typically every 3-4 months. Preventive measures like proper oral hygiene, balanced diet, avoiding tobacco, managing health conditions, and early detection through dental visits are essential to avoid and control periodontal issues.

Deep Cleanings

Deep cleanings, also known as scaling and root planing, are a specialized dental procedure performed to treat gum diseases such as periodontitis. Unlike regular cleanings, deep cleanings target areas below the gumline where plaque and tartar accumulate, causing inflammation and infection. During the procedure, the dentist or dental hygienist uses special instruments to carefully remove plaque, tartar, and bacteria from the tooth roots and smooth the tooth surfaces to discourage further buildup. Deep cleanings help reduce pocket depths, alleviate gum swelling, and promote gum tissue healing. This comprehensive cleaning is often performed in multiple visits and may be accompanied by local anesthesia to ensure patient comfort. Deep cleanings are a critical component of managing gum diseases and maintaining optimal periodontal health.
